GHANA NATIONAL ECONOMIC DIALOGUE 2025

A Progressive Response to the National Economic Dialogue 2025: Centering Climate Justice and a Just Energy Transition

The economic choices made today will shape not just growth trajectories but also the livelihoods of millions, the integrity of natural ecosystems, and the country’s ability to navigate a changing climate. The 2025 National Economic Dialogue (NED) provided an opportunity to set a bold course for the future, yet climate justice remained secondary in mainstream discussions. What does economic growth mean if it comes at the cost of farming communities, forest communities and coastal communities/fisher folks?

The Just Energy Transition Hub, supported by AbibiNsroma and FIDEP Foundation, lays out a transformative position that prioritizes inclusive development, sustainable livelihoods, and climate justice. This position calls for a fundamental shift in global climate finance, where Ghana asserts its right to equitable, reparative funding rather than accumulating further debt. It emphasizes the need for greater transparency in energy agreements, ensuring that those most affected by climate and economic policies have a decisive voice in shaping them.

A fair and sustainable energy transition is not just an aspiration but a necessity. Ghana has the resources, the ingenuity, and the people to lead this shift. The question is: Will the transition be designed to serve communities, or will it once again prioritize corporate interests? Now is the time to realign policies, strengthen environmental safeguards, and place Ghanaian communities at the center of climate action.
